Xihu Gr
Type Locality and Naming
Rao Rongbiao et al. named this formation in 1987. The named section is located in Xihu Village Xinrong District, Yulong County, Tibet. In 1983, Rao Rongbiao et al divided the famous “Shading slate series” in eastern Tibet into Middle, Lower Triassic and Upper Triassic, and in 1987, Rao Rongbiao et al named it Xihu Gr and Quehala Gr respectively.

Lithology and Thickness
Characterized by a set of shallow metamorphic clastic rocks. Lower part is grey and grayish black slate with a few quartzite sandstones and dark green volcanic rocks. Slate contains andalusite and is 4223 m thick. Upper part is mainly grey black sandstone slate with a thickness of 1000 m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
It has a disconformable with the underlying Paleozoic Jiayuqiao Gr
Upper contact
It has a disconformable with the overlying Upper Triassic Quehala Gr
Regional extent
It is distributed in Naqu and Luolong, Tibet.

Fossils
The upper part of this group contains abundant spore fossils near Dingqingsangduo, and the ammonoids: Judicarites sp.; bivalve: Myophoria sp. etc.
